Weight that stopped
behaving predictably.
Weight that has changed without an obvious reason, or has not responded to what reliably worked before.

What this
usually looks like.
The pattern matters more than the number on the scale.
- Distribution changes Weight settling centrally when it never used to.
- Weight moved without cause Gain or loss with no change to diet or activity.
- Energy tracks with it Fatigue arriving alongside the change.
- Cravings and hunger shift Appetite signals that no longer feel reliable.
- Bloods were "borderline" Results not quite abnormal enough to prompt action.
Metabolic, before
it is a diagnosis.
Metabolic change develops over years before it crosses a diagnostic threshold. Insulin resistance in particular is measurable long before blood glucose becomes abnormal, which is why a normal glucose result does not exclude it.
Weight is an outcome, not an explanation. Assessing what is driving it is more useful than measuring it more often.
- Insulin and glucose Including fasting insulin, which standard screening omits.
- Thyroid function On a full panel, since subclinical change affects metabolic rate.
- Sex hormones Perimenopause and low testosterone both alter body composition.
- Body composition Muscle, fat and visceral fat measured separately, not inferred from BMI.
- Lipids and inflammation Cardiovascular and inflammatory markers assessed together.
- Sleep and stress Both influence appetite regulation and insulin sensitivity directly.
Weight is an outcome, not an explanation. What drives it is the more useful question.
How we
assess it.
Measure what is actually happening before recommending any change to what you are doing.
-
Full history
Weight history, what has been tried, and what changed around the point it shifted.
-
Metabolic panel
Insulin, glucose, thyroid, lipids, inflammatory and hormonal markers together.
-
Body composition
Objective measurement of muscle, fat and visceral fat as a baseline.
-
Consultant review
Results interpreted together, with a plan built on what they show.
Who would
see you.
This concern is held by Longevity & Network Medicine. If assessment points elsewhere, you are introduced to the right consultant rather than redirected to find one.
Visit the specialtyWhen more than one
system is involved.
Metabolic health connects directly to hormonal, cardiovascular and cognitive health. A finding here frequently changes what matters in another specialty, which is why the assessment is read as a whole rather than as a weight-loss enquiry.
How Lavora connects careBefore you
get in touch.
Is this a weight-loss programme?
No. This is an assessment of what is driving a metabolic change. Treatment follows from what is found, and for some patients weight is not the most important thing the assessment uncovers.
My glucose was normal. Does that rule out a metabolic problem?
No. Insulin resistance is measurable years before glucose becomes abnormal. Fasting insulin is part of our panel for that reason.
Will you prescribe weight-loss medication?
Where it is clinically appropriate and after assessment, it is one option among several. It is not the starting point, and it is not offered without the underlying picture being understood first.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. An assessment is how you find out what is actually happening.
This page explains how Lavora approaches a concern. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace a consultation.
